Thursday 11th. November 2010

On Sunday 7th. November 2010 we played 69 League Cup matches, 99 Challenge Cup matches and 42 League fixtures culminating in 1,360 goals being scored. There were an amazing 91 hat-tricks or better scored and from them a couple of special mentions:

Seven players scored 5 times, but this was bettered by Josh Gash who scored 6 for Newton Aycliffe Youth in the Under 12 Challenge Cup first round. However, and how about this, the best performance last Sunday was by Christian Taylor who scored 8 of his teams eleven goals for Bishop Auckland St. Mary's "b" at home to Brompton Juniors in the 2nd. Round of the Under 16 League Cup.

The unluckiest player must have been Robert Bell who scored all 5 of Middleton Rangers goals in the Under 11 1st. Round of the Challenge Cup only to see his side lose 8-5 against Wolsingham AFC. 5 goals in that game also for Wolsingham's Scott Egglestone.

I mentioned some League Cup matches which looked like being closely contested last Thursday and some of them indeed were:

Golden Flatts edged out St. Francis 2000 in the Hartlepool derby 3rd. Round League Cup match in the Under 10 Durham area. An opening goal by Jack Bond for 2nd. Division St. Francis was cancelled out by two strikes from Andrew Buttery and a goal from Vinnie Steels for the first division outfit.

Two games in the third round of Under 13 League Cup also proved to be highly competitive as Lingdale from the fifth division hosted Greatham FC from the top flight and lost by 3 goals to 2. Bradley Green, Alan Harrison and James Hogan for Greatham, with Nial Crawley bagging himself both of Lingdale's goals.

The other close match in that age group and also in the 3rd. Round took place over at Nunthorpe Athletic as the 100% and very useful third division "b" team hosted Redcar Town "a", who are going well in the first division. Well, Redcar Town "a" won by 3 goals to 2 with Jake Whittle and Harry Williams scoring for Nunthorpe, but Sam Parry grabbed two and Chris Jackson scored the other for Redcar Town "a".

In the Under 15 League Cup third round, Redcar Town "a" repeated the previous week's League win and beat Marton FC by 3 goals to nil to go into the quarter final stage. Two goals for Jordi Duncan and one by Joseph Robson sealed their win.

Finally, from the matches I highlighted last Thursday, at Under 18 in the 2nd. Round of the TJFA League Cup, third division Stokesley FC "b" gained an excellent win over second division Redcar Athletic "b" by 5 goals to 2. Two goals from the five scored by Stokesley's Robbie Seaton.

There was also a great result for Kader FC "a" Under 9's in the third round of the League Cup when they beat top of the table Marton FC 4-1 away, with goals from Cameron Roberts, Joshua Roberts, Robbie Hannon and Connor Reney, the Marton goal coming from Brandon Morrison.

A bit of a "giant-killing act" at Under 11 as third division New Marske beat top flight North Ormesby by 2 goals to 1 in the League Cup second round. Goals from William Cross and Jamie Hood with the goal for North Ormesby coming from Ben Pickering.

Fifth division Great Ayton also recorded an excellent third round win at Under 11 when they travelled down to Richmond Town and beat the third division team by 4 goals to one. Joshua Devlin scored for Richmond but goals from Ben Bielby (2), Joshua Hurwood and Toby Tanfield saw Great Ayton progress to the last 16. Their Under 14's added to the party mood at Great Ayton when they beat higher division opponents in Cleveland Juniors by 3 goals to 2. Clevo's goals from Thomas Bligh and Johnny Hales, but Great Ayton moved into the quarter finals with goals from James Goodings, Brad Malone and James McCullagh. Great Ayton's U15's also won 2-0 away at Peterlee with goals from Callum Dowson and Caton Terry.

There were also great results for South Park Rangers "a" who won away at N&S Ancients by 2 goals to 1 in the Under 12 League Cup. Goals from Sean Collett and Brandon Terry with the goal for N&S Ancients by Jack Chapman.

Brinkburn FC dented Boro' Rangers double hopes when they hosted the 100% and top of the table outfit and beat them by 3 goals to 2. Brinkburn's goals from Ben Goodchild who netted twice and Jamie McLeod, with Adam Jefferson and Jackson Wardell replying for the Rangers.

Finally at our oldest age group at Under 18 Stokesley's "a" side also reached the quarter finals of the League Cup and have avoided their "b" team in the draw. The "a" team winning at home to Stockton Town with Ged Livingstone again on target with both Stokesley goals, Stockton scored through Brian Harrison.

We are back with a "League weekend" this coming Sunday, with some matches postponed due to County Cup week, but there are still some cracking games to look forward to in the TJFA and a total of 216 games (my choice as 1st. & 2nd. I'll give you in a moment): but the best mini-soccer game looks to be in the Under 9 North Riding first division as Boro' Rangers, in third place and unbeaten, host Marton FC who are top and also unbeaten. Both teams have nearly identical records in this division and it should be a quality game of a very high standard.

Under 14 - Div. 5 - Greatham FC "b" v Prissick Rovers - 1:30pm
Both teams are 100% in the fifth division with Prissick sitting top, having played one game more. Two very useful teams and, even at this stage of the season, it could give a clue as to where the title goes. Something has to give in this. A great looking fixture.

Under 16 - Div. 2 - Mount Pleasant Rangers v Nunthorpe Athletic - 1:30pm
Second placed and 100% Mount Pleasant host a very useful Nunthorpe Athletic who are unbeaten and currently lie in third place. A match which, on paper, could go either way as both teams look equally strong.

Under 11 - Div. 4 - Guisborough Town v Stokesley FC - 11:00am
The two best defences so far in this division meet up at Guisborough, with both teams having won 5 of their opening 6 league matches. It will be interesting to see if Guisborough can keep their unbeaten record against a strong Stokesley team.

Under 13 - Div. 2 - Wolviston Juniors v Barnard Castle - 11:00am
Top host second as these two sides battle it out. Barnard Castle unbeaten in 5 but Wolviston have won 6 of their 7 league matches so far. Again two good defences on show with Barnard Castle just a bit more prolific in attack.

Under 18 - Div. 2 - Grangetown YCC v Stockton West End - 1:30pm
In our oldest age group we have top of the table, and unbeaten, Grangetown taking on Stockton West End who have won three of their first four League matches. Both know where the back of the net is and both have tight defences. Another match of the highest order.

Other top and "watchable" games for Sunday 15th. November 2010 include:

U11 - Div. 3 - Billingham Rangers v Darlington TSC - 11:00am
U13 - Div. 3 - Newton Aycliffe Juniors v Mount Pleasant Rangers "a" - 1:30pm
U14 - Div. 1 - Stockton Town v Bishop Auckland St. Mary's "a" - 1:30pm
U14 - Div. 2 - Great Ayton v Leven AFC - 1:30pm
U15 - Div. 5 - 21st. Allstars "b" v Barnard Castle - 1:30pm
