Thursday 21st. April 2011
The second busiest week of the season last week with an astonishing 258 matches played, 1195 goals being scored and 52 players scoring hat-tricks or better. The last 7 semi-finals of theTJFA Cup Competitions were played to a conclusion and we now have our full compliment of 44 teams at Rockliffe Rark for those 22 Cup Finals on May 8th. 2011.
There were a number of players who scored better than hat-tricks but the most prolific was Daniel Pigg for Mount Pleasant Rangers "a", who play in the Under 13 third division, and he scored an astonishing 12 individual goals for his team.
To the games highlighted from last week now and a match which decided who the runners-up position would go to in the Under 14 fourth division as North Ormesby "b" hosted Newton Aycliffe Youth. In a great game the Newton Aycliffe team took the spoils with a closely fought 2-1 win to make sure they would be at one of The Tall Trees presentation evenings. The North Ormesby goal from Jonathan Allport with the two Newton Aycliffe goals from Jack Cane and Connor Halford.
Boro' Rangers were rather convincing winners over at Marton Hall Drive and are in pole position to become the Champions of the Under 14 first division. Winning by a rather unexpectedly large margin of 8 goals to nil, their scorers were Ryan Penny and Ross Teasdale, with two goals each for Adam Jefferson, Macauley Langstaff and Jackson Wardell.
In the top mini-soccer match of the day over in Northallerton, Richmond Town "a" won the Under 10 North Riding Division 2 Championship decider with a fine 2-0 win. Both Richmond Town goals in that one coming from Thomas Kavanagh. Northallerton Juniors finish a fine season as runners-up and both these teams will fully deserve their recognition at The Tall Trees at the end of season presentation events. They have both had splendid seasons.
The well-publicised League Cup Under 15 semi-final between Redcar Town "a" and Whinney Banks YCC again lived up to all expectations, as Whinney Banks won another close game between these two very good sides by 2 goals to 1. Terry Carline and Mason McNeill on target for Whinney Banks with the Redcar goal from Jordan Hoggarth. Whinney Banks now meet Stokesley FC in a cracking looking final over at Hurworth Park on May 15th.
Another team to make it through to the finals at Rockliffe Park were the Under 10 North Riding Marton FC "b" team, who travelled across to Nunthorpe Athletic last Sunday and won by two goals to nil. Both goals in that semi-final from Luke Salmon.
Onto other selected matches from last Sunday and some very close fought League matches:
The top two sides in the Under 11 fifth division shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw as Skelton United hosted Primrose Hill. Skelton are now certain of League honours, but it looks as though Primrose Hill will go to The Tall Trees as Champions as they have two matches left to play. Two goals each in that draw last Sunday for Ross Cole of Skelton and Jamie Leeming of Primrose Hill.
The same 2-2 scoreline in the Under 12 division 3 match between Thirsk Falcons and Richmond Town means both teams are still unsure of who will be the runners-up. Richmond Town, in third place, have one final match left to see if they can overhaul Thirsk, who are currently one point ahead. Goals in the 2-2 draw from Joe Hannan and Joshua Peirse for Thirsk Falcons with James Donoghue and Ben Edwards on target for Richmond Town.
Brompton Juniors won a close match over at Stockton Rangers by 3 goals to 2 in the Under 12 sixth division to make sure they also attend The Tall Trees presentation evening, this time as runners-up. Goals in that close-fought match from James Winship, who scored both of the Stockton Rangers goals, and Ta Khansuwanna and a double from Joe Martin for Brompton Juniors.
Finally, in the oldest age group in the TJFA, Redcar Athletic "a" kept the pressure on Stokesley FC "a", with a very good 3-2 win when they travelled over to Stockton Town in the Under 18 top flight. The Stockton Town goals from Jamie Blyth and Famara Jatta with Joe Bennett, Robert Farrier and Lewis Smith on target for Redcar Athletic.
Well, almost a blank weekend coming up as it is Easter, but we will be back next Thursday to overview all the events of midweek matches being played this week and again look ahead to the following, penultimate week, of the League season with matches being played on Sunday 1st. May 2011.
