Thursday 28th. October 2010
On Sunday 24th. October 2010 Teams played 249 League matches and a staggering 1,278 goals were scored. There were 75 hat-tricks or better and from them a couple of special mentions:
Two players hit the back of the net 6 times. They were Kieran Stangoe for Stokesley FC in the Under 13 fifth division who won at home to Eaglescliffe Elementis by an amazing 8 goals to 5. Karl Hammond also scored 6 for Greatham FC "b" in a 7-4 win against Darlington TSC in the Under 14 fourth division. But the best goal-scoring performance last week was by Louis Hall who knocked in seven of Acklam FC's goals against Beechwood Youth in the Under 11 sixth division. Just as a matter of interest Acklam FC had a great "Club" day on Sunday with all four of their teams coming out on top. I know Craig Hurndall, their Club Secretary, was enjoying that success (perhaps just a little too much!!) on Sunday evening.
But again, quite a few prolific goalscorers out there.
I mentioned last week that there were only 9 teams who hadn't conceded a League goal, well that's now down to 4 but North Ormesby Under 9's kept their record intact and while lots of credit must go to the team's defence, their 'keeper Tom Bytheway deserves a special mention for keeping 6 clean sheets in the League so far.
With a league this size it's hard to keep loads of "stats" and facts and figures, but one which I will share with the readers is this: One player has scored a hat-trick or better in each of his first five League games for his team and that player is Stevie Georgiou who plays for Redcar Athletic "b" in the Under 10 North Riding third division. 3 goals in each of his first two games, he scored 4 in each of the next two and on Sunday 24th. he rattled in another 3. That's 17 league goals in just 5 games.
A couple of matches to mention from last Sunday:
The Under 13 division 3 match between the two high-flyers Fishburn Boys and Nunthorpe Athletic turned out to be a great game with Nunthorpe just edging out Fishburn by the odd goal in five. That maintains Nunthorpe's 100% start to the season.
In the Under 16 top flight Stockton Town proved too strong for Redcar Town "a" and won by a bigger score of 7-0 than most people would have thought going into the game. A hat-trick in that game for Steven Riddle of Stockton Town.
The Under 18 first division match, which looked a great game on paper, proved just that when Marton FC entertained Redcar Athletic "a" and the match ended in a 3-3 draw. Both teams are still unbeaten in that division.
The Under 15 first division is one of those where any amount of teams are good enough to win the Championship and that has proved the same for a number of seasons now. The top game in that division saw Whinney Banks YCC travel across to Redcar Town and, in a game which I'm told was a credit to both teams, and the League, they played out a 1-1 draw. Goals in that one by Josh Dowsland for Redcar Town and Damon Miller for Whinney Banks YCC.
Finally, in the Under 10 North Riding third division, and in my view, the top mini-soccer game of the day Redcar Athletic "a" travelled across to Beechwood Youth and won by 3 goals to nil, with Jacob Zeuner getting two of the Redcar Athletic goals and the other coming from Joe Bosomworth.
So, again, some great games last Sunday as the season gathers pace, some great fixtures on the horizon and League Tables continue to take shape.
We should see 261 league games on Sunday 31st. October 2010, so there is, as always lot's to look forward to, but my choices would be:
Under 15 - 1 Marton FC v Redcar Town "a" - 1:30pm
Marton FC, 100%, take on last seasons Champions and, unbeaten so far, Redcar Town "a" at Hall Drive. One of the most competitive divisions in the TJFA and a game which really could go either way, but that should be a great game to watch.
Under 16 - 3 Bedale JFC v Acklam FC - 1:30pm
Acklam make the journey down to Bedale as the top two teams who both have 100% records go head to head. Sitting second and top respectively, this should be another cracking match for the neutral supporter.
Under 13 - 6 Stockton Rangers v Trimdon United - 11:00am
Another two 100% teams battle it out at the top of this division. Trimdon who are currently top have scored 42 goals in 5 games so far and only conceded three, but this is tough against very useful opponents, who also know where the back of the net is, having scored 26 in four League matches so far.
Under 10 NR - 3 Redcar Athletic "a" v Redcar Athletic "b" - 12:30pm
Both teams unbeaten with the "b" side currently 100%. Great to see a Club match and while they might be good friends off the pitch this should give one of the teams players the "bragging rights" at school next week.
Under 11 - 4 Leven AFC v Guisborough Town - 11:00am
Again the top two teams go head to head with Leven boasting a 100% record so far, but this is a well-balanced match on paper and any result seems possible in this one. It will all be about who holds their nerve on the day!
So, plenty for everyone to enjoy and enthuse about this coming weekend.
Other "interesting" matches to watch out for:
U14 - 1 - Redcar Athletic "a" v Boro' Rangers - 1:30pm
U15 - 1 - Whinney Banks YCC v Stokesley FC - 1:30pm
U8 N/R - 1 - Marton FC v Marton Hall Drive (non-comp!) - 12:30pm
U9 N/R - 2 - Stokesley FC v Thirsk Falcons - 12:30pm
U10 D - 2 - Mount Pleasant v N. Aycliffe youth "a" - 12:30pm
U11 - 2 - Ferryhill Town v Golden Flatts - 11:00am
U11 - 5 - N. Aycliffe Youth "a" v Primrose Hill - 11:00am
U12 - 1 - Billingham Town v Kader FC - 11:00am
U14 - 5 - Prissick Rovers v Trimdon United - 1:30pm
U15 - 5 - Sedgefield Youth v N. Aycliffe Youth - 1:30pm
