Thursday 5th. May 2011
A busy penultimate week with 204 matches played. There were 1016 goals scored and we had 59 players who scored hat-tricks or better in those matches.
Some tremendous scoring performances and we start by selecting a couple of players who not only bagged quite a few, but actually scored all of their teams goals. Luke Weed scored all five goals for Loftus FC against Wolviston Juniors in one of their two matches away last week in the Under 15 fourth division. Loftus took a maximum six points in their last two matches to ensure they would be at The Tall Trees again this season. Another player to score all five of his teams goals was Lewis Wing for Newton Aycliffe Juniors in the Under 16 second division when they played away to Stockton West End. And in the Under 11 fourth division Isaac Wappatt scored all eight of Stokesley FC's goals away to Fishburn Boys, but the best scoring performance overall was by Robbie Hannon for Kader FC "a" who travelled across to Dormanstown in the Under 9 North Riding first division and he scored no less than ten goals for his team.
I mentioned some really good looking matches last Thursday and I'm pleased to say they didn't disappoint as the race for divisional honours at a number of age groups hits the home straight:
Spraire Lads won a difficult looking match away at Bishop Auckland St. Mary's in the top match in the Under 14 third division which almost guarantee's them the Championship. They won by two goals to nil with both goals coming from Cameron Callaghan.
Greatham FC kept the pressure on Stockton Town in the Under 16 top flight with a hard-fought 1-0 win away at Kader FC, the all-important goal in that one from Joe Evans to make sure Greatham get an invitation to The Tall Trees towards the end of the month.
A very impressive performance by Guisborough Town over at Marton Hall Drive "b" in the Under 11 fourth division gives them the pole position in that division, with just a handful of games left to play this week. Winning by three goals to two puts them top of the pile, goals for Marton Hall Drive from Yousuf Bennett and Cameron Spencer, but a double by Curtis Wilson and a third by Kieran Sanderson enough to gain the vital three points for Guisborough Town.
A first class performance by Stokesley FC "b" in the Under 18 third division saw them gain a 3-1 home win to leap-frog the League leaders Spraire Lads. The Spraire Lads goal from Liam Browne, but strikes from Edward Codd, Liam Fox and Ryan McGouran saw Stokesley take a two point advantage with both teams having just two matches left to play.
Fishburn Park entertained Acklam FC in the Under 16 third division and a 0-0 scoreline leaves Fishburn in second place just two points behind Redcar Town "b" but with two games in hand and the title is now between those two teams in that division.
Fishburn Park's Under 10's third division team did their best to join their older members at The Tall Trees with a 5-3 win against a useful Tollesby Athletic team, but with Redcar Athletic "b" winning by a single goal against Redcar Town, Fishburn Boys will have to wait another season for League honours. Tollesby's goals from Ethan Irwin who got two and Jordan Freer, with the Fishburn Park goals from Callum Horne, Joshua Linsley and Adam Warrilow with a double from Ryan Hambley. The Redcar Athletic "b" goalscorer against Redcar Town which saw his team through to the League Presentation Evening at The Tall Trees was Ben Sims.
The Under 14 first division Boro' Rangers side played three matches last week and won the lot to sew up the League Championship with a couple of games to spare. They knocked in 13 goals in those three matches and currently boast both the best attack and defence in the division having scored 85 goals and conceded just 17 in their 18 games so far.
Whinney Banks YCC gained the bragging rights against Stokesley FC ahead of a massive TJFA League Cup Final at Hurwoth in just over a weeks time with a 3-1 win in the Under 15 first division. Whinney Banks YCC are still on course for a massive treble after securing the Championship of the first division last week. They are in the North Riding Cup Final and also the TJFA League Cup Final. Their goals against Stokesley FC from Damon Miller, who bagged himself two, and Ben Askins with the Stokesley goal coming from Gerard Richardson.
Redcar Town "b" made absolutely certain of silverware last week in the Under 16 third division. In a close fought local derby match they gained a 2-1 away win at rivals New Marske FC. Goals in that one from Anthony Prouse for New Marske with the Redcar Town "b" goals from Robert Dean and Jack Edmunds.
We have the final 142 League fixtures scheduled for this w/e with the final matches being played on Sunday. Quite a few which will decide honours and some excellent matches to be played on the final Sunday are listed below. We start with two massive games:
Under 18 - Div. 1 Stokesley FC "a" v Marton FC - 1:30pm
A match which will ultimately decide where the Championship of this oldest age group top division ends up. Two very evenly matched teams with all to play for in this finale to the season. Anything but a Stokesley FC win will guarantee the Championship for Marton, but if Stokesley win they will wrest the title from the long time league leaders. A cracking match in prospect.
Under 16 - Div. 2 Bishop Auckland St. Mary's "a" v Nunthorpe Athletic - 1:30pm
A similar situation in the Under 16 second division with a huge match at the top of this division. Both teams with very similar records and a match which could go either way as the League season draws to a conclusion.
Under 14 - Div. 3 Bishop Auckland St. Mary's "b" v New Marske FC - 1:30pm
Bishop Auckland looks the place to be on Sunday as yet another match is taking place which will have a huge bearing on the title race. Both teams need something from this game to make certain of their place at The Tall Trees later this month. A really difficult match to predict the outcome of and this may end up as a stalemate, and if that was the final result this would give some form of silverware to New Marske FC.
Under 11 - Div. 3 Billingham Synthonia v Darlington TSC - 11:00am
The final game for Darlington TSC and, depending how they got on in their midweek fixture against New Marske FC, this could be the one that secures them the League Championship. But this won't be easy as the "Sinners" have taken a few scalps this season and will not give the points up without a fight. A cracking end of season match.
Under 10 Durham - Div. 3 Stockton Rangers v Fishburn Boys - 12:30pm
Depending how midweek matches have ended up this could be a Championship decider between the top two sides. Only a Fishburn Boys win would be enough to gain the title and against the current League leaders they face a stiff task, but this is a great little mini-soccer match to finish off the 2010/2011 season.
Other great games this weekend:
U9N/R - Div. 1 Redcar Town "a" v Cargo Fleet Juniors - 12:30pm
U11 - Div. 2 Redcar Town "b" v Golden Flatts - 11:00am
U12 - Div. 4 Stockton Town FC v Mount Pleasant Rangers - 11:00am
U18 - Div. 3 Saxon Juniors v Stokesley FC "b" - 1:30pm
