Thursday April 28th. 2011

A much quieter weekend but we still had lots of midweek games, and 84 matches were played since we were last "on air". There were 442 goals scored and we had 30 players who scored hat-tricks or better in those matches.

The best scoring performance was by James Curry for Kirk Merrington Under 11 who play in the fifth division and James scored six goals for his team last week.

A number of Championship and Runners-up positions are now being settled and Mount Pleasant Rangers in the second division at Under 10, although losing narrowly 2-1 at Seaton Carew, made it to The Tall Trees with the benefit of other results going their way. Seaton's goals in that one from Tegan Atyeo and Luke Jones with the Mount Pleasant Rangers strike from Lee Wilkinson.

Newton Aycliffe Youth made certain of their attendance at the end of season awards ceremony with a tremendous 5-1 win at home to the Champions Primrose Hill, in the Under 13 fourth division. The Primrose Hill goal from Joseph Carter with Johnathan Hampshire scoring twice for Newton Aycliffe and further goals for them coming from Sam Dobinson, Jake Nicholls and Max Wilson.

Spraire Lads are making everyone chase hard to catch them at the top of the Under 18 third division and look nailed on to become the eventual Champions after playing two matches last week and winning both of them. First they won away at Billingham Town "b" by 3 goals to 2, the Billingham goals from Alex Craig and Daniel Liddle. Zak Tervit scored twice for Spraire with their third coming from Jamie Russell. They then hosted Seaton Carew "b" and won that match by 3 goals to 1. The Seaton goal from Sean Wilson with strikes from James Bennett, Ally Leigh and another from Jamie Russell gaining six vital points for the Darlington Spraire Lads outfit.

Also at Under 18, but this time in the top flight, Stokesley FC's "a" team kept the Championship race wide open with a solid performance away to their closest rivals Redcar Athletic "a", winning by 4 goals to 1. The final match of the season between stokesley and marton fc scheduled for may 8th. Looks as though it will decide the Championship of that division. The goalscorer for Redcar Athletic last week was Joe Bennett, but Stokesley came out rather comfortable winners in the end with goals from Lyndon Paisley, Ben Whetter and the prolific Ged Livingstone getting himself another two.

It's extremely tight in terms of exactly who will gain honours in many of the divisions as we head into the final two weeks of the League season and there's still much to play for over the next fortnight.

We have 212 fixtures scheduled for w/e Sunday 1st. May, quite a few worthy of mention and these, to be played on Sunday, are as follows:

Under 14 - Div. 3 Bishop Auckland St. Mary's "b" v Spraire Lads - 1:30pm
Third placed Bishop Auckland host the League leaders in a great looking fixture. Bishop are three points behind Spraire Lads but have a vital game in hand. The result of this match is another which could decide where the Championship and Runners-up awards go. Spraire Lads have scored the most goals in this division but Bishop Auckland have the best defence. Another tricky looking game to predict the outcome of.

Under 16 - Div. 1 Kader FC v Greatham FC - 1:30pm
Yet another huge game in the Under 16 age group as third placed Kader host Greatham FC. Anything other than a Kader win will surely hand the second place to Greatham FC. These two teams have almost identical League records and this game could go either way, with a draw possibly looking the most favoured outcome.

Under 11 - Div. 4 Marton Hall Drive "b" v Guisborough Town - 11:00am
A crunch game for these two teams over at Hall Drive in Acklam. Both teams have similar defensive records with both scoring heavily throughout the season. Marton Hall Drive have notched themselves 89 goals in their 19 matches so far and Guisborough have scored 81 in their 18. Guisborough are currently two points behind with a game in hand going into this one, and this is sure to be a great game on Sunday.

Under 18 - Div. 3 Stokesley FC "b" v Spraire Lads - 1:30pm
Spraire Lads make the journey over to Stokesley in the top match of the season in our oldest age group. A game which is highly likely to decide where the Championship will end up this year. Spraire Lads are currently top and four points clear of Stokesley who have a game in hand. Anything other than a Stokesley win would surely see the Championship go to Darlington Spraire Lads. A huge match where no quarter is likely to be asked . . . . or given.

Under 16 - Div. 3 Fishburn Park v Acklam FC - 1:30pm
Acklam FC travel across to Whitby to take on the League leaders knowing nothing else but a win against Fishburn Park will keep them in the hunt for end of season honours. Fishburn Park are looking good for the title at this stage, but the earlier match at Acklam was a really tight affair and this one looks every bit as difficult to predict the outcome of. A great game for anyone to take in down at Whitby this weekend.

Some other great games this weekend:

U10N/R - Div. 3 Fishburn Park "b" v Tollesby Athletic - 12:30pm
U12 - Div. 3 Normanby United v Richmond Town - 11:00am
U14 - Div. 1 Greatham FC "a" v Boro' Rangers - 1:30pm
U15 - Div. 1 Stokesley FC v Whinney Banks YCC - 1:30pm
U16 - Div. 2 Mount Pleasant Rangers v Bishop Auckland St. Mary's "a" - 1:30pm
U16 - Div. 3 New Marske FC v Redcar Town "b" - 1:30pm
U16 - Div. 4 California Boys v Eaglescliffe Elementis - 1:30pm
