Thursday November 25th. 2010

We had a number of postponements due to the rain but we still managed to play 175 League games with 949 goals being scored. There were 52 hat-tricks or better and from them, and a couple of games, our usual special mentions:

Nine players scored 5 goals last Sunday, but the best performance by a striker last week was by Luke Jenkinson who hammered home 6 of the 21st. Allstars "b" Under 11 goals in an 8-3 win over at Whinney Banks YCC in the second division.

The top match I highlighted last week was in the Under 11 first division where Wynyard Village "a" recorded a tremendous victory away at Boro' Rangers. It must have been a cracking game as they won by 3 goals to 2. Goals for Boro' Rangers from Connor Simpson and Isaac Walker, but strikes from Russell Bradley, Jake Petitjean and new signing Joe Richardson keeps that division really wide open. That will be one of the divisions which looks like going right to the wire in terms of team honours later next year.

In the top match in the Under 13 first division, Marton FC overcame Whinney Banks YCC by 2 goals to 1 with Daniel Rayner and Kieron Salmon getting the goals for Marton and Alex McFarlane scoring for Whinney Banks.

One of the top mini-soccer games of the day was over at Leven AFC where they entertained 21st. Allstars "b" from Darlington in the Under 9 Durham second division. Leven AFC won the game by 3 goals to 1 with the Allstars goal from Ross Howell, but a hat-trick for Benjamin Cummins saw his team go four points clear at the top. Benjamin Cummins also goes top of the leading goalscorers chart in that division with 12 goals to his name.

In the Under 11 second division Golden Flatts from Hartlepool entertained Newton Aycliffe Juniors and won by three goals to one, keeping up their impressive start to the season. Two goals by Thomas Harrison and one by Ryan Robinson were enough against Aycliffe with the Aycliffe goal coming from Sam Dawson. Golden Flatts are now 6 points clear, although the team in second spot, Spraire Lads "a", have a game in hand and these two still have to play each other twice yet.

In the Under 11 fifth division Skelton United kept up the pressure on table-toppers Primrose Hill and moved into second spot with a emphatic 4-0 win over third placed rivals South Park Rangers "b". A couple of goals for Ross Cole and one each for Bradley Hart and James Walkington securing the points in that one.

There are currently 22 teams with 100% records at this stage of the season. There are 24 teams who haven't gained their first point yet.

There are four teams who are 100% and haven't yet conceded a single goal so far in their League programme: Stockton Town "a" at Under 9 in the Durham first division (played 7 - for 31 against 0), North Ormesby Under 9 in the North Riding second division (played 9 - for 39 against 0), St. Francis 2000 in the Durham Under 10 second division (played 6 - for 19 against 0) and Great Ayton in the Under 14 second division with a record of played 6 (for 26 against 0).

Weather permitting a full "League Fixture" weekend coming up, with a total of 260 fixtures scheduled. It does look increasingly doubtful if many will go ahead with the snow falling and the current icy conditions:

Under 10D - Div. 2 - St. Francis 2000 v Mount Pleasant - 12:30pm
Unusual for me to pick the top match of the week from a mini-soccer game, but this looks to be a cracking game. Both teams are 100%, with St. Francis sitting in second place and yet to concede a goal in their opening 6 League matches, but this Sunday they take on top of the table Mount Pleasant who have scored 31 goals in their opening 7 games and only conceded three themselves. This should be an excellent mini-soccer game.

Under 11 - Div. 5 - Primrose Hill v Skelton United - 11:00am
Top host second with primrose 100% from their 7 games so far and they are scoring goals for fun with 35 to their credit in those opening matches. But Skelton are also in a rich vein of form this season and with only one defeat in their opening 7, this could be a really tight game. Skelton know where the back of the net is as well, knocking in an impressive 32 goals in their first 7 games.

Under 12 - Div. 3 - Darlington TSC v TIBS FC "a" - 11:00am
Top of the table and 100% TIBS FC "a" make the journey over to second placed Darlington TSC, who have lost just once this season, with both teams having all to play for. These two sides have identical goal records with both of them scoring 26 against 5 after 7 matches. A really close match on paper.

Under 16 -Div. 3 - Fishburn Park v Redcar Town "b" - 1:30pm
Redcar Town "b", in second position, make the journey across to Whitby to take on a very useful Fishburn Park who are 100% and are currently in 3rd. place, but only because they have played less games than the top two sides. A strong division with the top four sides all going well, this could be a step towards end of season honours for either of these two well-equipped teams.

Under 18 - Div. 1 - Marton FC v Stokesley FC "a" - 1:30pm
Probably the top match in our oldest age group, where no quarter will be asked or given, sees Stokesley FC a" travel over to top of the table Marton FC, who are unbeaten this season. Stokesley "a" are currently 100% but have been misfiring a little bit recently and this is a massive game for both teams. Not for the faint-hearted and the points could go either way in this one.

Other top choices:

U9D - Div. 2 - B. Auckland St. Mary's "b" v Leven AFC - 12:30pm
