NEW CHANNEL 4 SERIES ON PARENTING IS LOOKING FOR FAMILIES!

Chris Ord - 11 January 2018

Good afternoon and a very happy new year to you and everyone at Teesside Junior Football Alliance.

My name is Patrick and I just wanted to inform you about a brand new Channel 4 series I am working on. Apologies as I know you must be inundated with these requests and thank you in advance for your time.

New series for Channel 4 is looking for families with children aged 8-16 to take part.

I write to you from Electric Ray, a London TV company that has made thought-provoking primetime programmes on parenting, ageing and the wealth divide, among other subjects. We have been commissioned by Channel 4 to make a new series, Alone At Home (working title), to sit alongside their other acclaimed hit series with children and parenting at the forefront: Secret Life of 4 & 5 Year Olds, Child Genius and Old People’s Home For 4 Year Olds.

If at all possible, please could the attached flyer be circulated via a mailout or newsletter to the teams you look after in case it may be of interest to the parents/guardians of your players?

Alone At Home (working title) is a new series that will question to what degree modern parenting styles adequately prepare our children for adulthood. How much do parents influence the behaviour of their children, even when they’re not around? And without these rules will our children be hapless, rebel or perhaps they’ll be more capable and resourceful than we give them credit for when left alone in their own home for a long weekend?

The family home in each episode will be fitted with remotely-operated cameras that will film 24 hours a day with the aim of observing the children’s experience.  We have been working with respected senior British psychologists who specialise in child development, and they believe this could provide a fascinating insight into the modern childhood experience and could contribute to the national debate around parenting that is focused on appropriate levels of risk, control and autonomy.  We want to see how children cope when they are given freedom and, in addition, they will be given a voice to express what it is like being a child in modern Britain.

We have had lots of positive discussions with organisations who support the idea, such as the National Network for Children in Employment and Entertainment (NNCEE), and we are keen to point out that the children will be monitored by chaperones and psychologists to help safeguard their physical and emotional welfare.  Prior to taking part there will be an extensive screening process for families with a clinical psychologist, and they will be given time to reflect as to whether taking part is right for them.  The families will know where every rigged camera and microphone is located prior to filming, and careful consideration will be given to the children’s privacy. There will be designated off-camera spaces for washing and changing, and a health & safety officer will be contracted for the duration of the filming to assess and advise on appropriate measures to be put in place.

If you do kindly agree to pass the attached flyer on, parents can decide if they would like to contact us directly to find out more. Any personal information given to us by parents will be processed in accordance with the 1998 Data Protection Act.

Please also do not hesitate to call me on 020 7061 8543 if you have any questions and I will be happy to talk to you in person.

Yours sincerely,

Patrick.

The event is less about your level of fitness and more about having a fun time! Participants are challenged to complete a course through the park whilst being doused from head to toe in vibrant colours in a huge Colour Party at the start and then as they pass through colour stations along the route. This year we will be also adding a foam machine station.
